Story:

Angel Sanctuary was the first anime series that I ever saw and since I'm now crazy about these series I believe that is enough proof of that Angel Sanctuary is a ass kicking series! (I apologize for my language).
It's about Setsuna Mudou who is in love with Sara who not only loves him back deeply but also is his own biological sister. Though Setsuna tries his best to keep his feelings for his sister hidden deep inside of him to be forgotten (but then lets it out, in order to give Sara nothing but happiness), is he forced to succumb to his fate. Setsuna happen to be the reincarnation of an angel named Alexiel who died after starting a rebellion against God and then was punished (as she was defeated) to be reborn over and over again as a human being only but to die a horrible death. Setsuna must accept this as his destiny but then fight if he wants to survive and get to be with the woman he loves the most.

Characters:

All the characters in Angel Sanctuary does have their own personalities (no really?) hey, what I mean by that is that part from many other series are these characters easy to separate from each other though the also melt together at a certain point. This makes it very easy to part them and most of all remember them!

Setsuna Mudou: My favourite! He tries so hard to stay cool and live his life as an average high school student. All he wants to is to be with his sister and make her happy, he basically doesn't give a bam about some stupid angels. Nor some stupid demons either for that matter! I can't help but think that he's so cool.

Sara Mudou: Adores her brother. She worships her brother. She's rather cute, I admit that, but too often is she giving me the impression that she is too small to have these kinds of feelings at all. That is a little bit of a spoiler.

Sakuya Kira: He is so cool! Kira comes as a lifesaver, gives Setsuna a slap here and a push there to keep him on track, swinging around his sword to help his best friend in need. Always hiding behind this mysterious, cool guy but there’s also a soft and sensitive side when you get to know about the relationship between him and his father,

Rociel: Worth to mention. This son of a sure nice angel wants nothing but for Alexiel to wake up, to use her powers to 'revive' to her true self. I can't help but wonder if he has something for his sister as well.

Alexiel: We don't really get to know Alexiel that well in these first 3 OVA's but what we do see from the beginning till the end is that she has a kind heart (part from someone else that is supposed to be related to her -glares at Rociel-) and basically feels for Setsuna, helps him out. It’s really sweet = )

Music:

The music is awesome! The opening (and ending song) Knife of Romance, preformed by F-Phl is just.. amazing! Has great lyrics, a catching chorus and perfect for these OVA’s. I love this song. The rest of the soundtrack, Messiah, Kites and Sanctus, just to mention a few songs, are also great. Perfect for the series. That's all there is to say about the music. Perfect.

Animation:

I find no reason to complain but I have seen better. There is some gore and blood which I think is good. I don't like when the series are too censored. AS hasn't got that much of the humour animations that anime is famous for, which is a bit sad but it's not really supposed to be funny so. It's mostly bright, never gets as dark as I sometimes felt it should, to get the right atmosphere. But still, it's simply and good. They could have looked over the colours they used though. Does spoil the whole feeling a bit. That’s why I strongly recommend you to read the manga as well.

Comments:

Hm, well what can I say. I got this series to thank for my life! I highly, strongly and truly recommend it! Though the animation is a little disapponting. And the ending of the first, what volume? As well... oh well. That's life, right? You have to see it! (Oh I also apologize for bad language and stuff, it's abit early in the morning and AS really gets me all exited!) = )

What you don't know cant hurt you, or as they say. The Angel Sanctuary story is much complicated than you know thrust me i read the its manga and i know for example Sakuya Kira the friend that always help Setsuna is not human and he always was after Alexiel in the body that she alway reborn in and in the last time he even kill her but the most shock is he was the head of hell before he was sealed and forget his memory and you must wait until the end before you known who is the reeeeealy bad Character in the story

I became interested in this anime because I loved the art work, and though the OVA was condensed and depicted only the first four volumes or so of the manga, I still found this anime very enjoyable. It effectively weaved together three independent storylines: the forbidden love of Setsuna for his sister, Sarah (this is coupled with the interesting relationship between Setsuna and his friend Kira); Kurai, a demon, and her attempt to resurrect the spirit of her mentor, the angel Alexiel, from within Setsuna; and Katan and Rosiel, Alexiel's twin brother, who are also trying to resurrect Alexiel. The plot is quite complex even though there are only three episodes, which means you might need to watch it more than once. The ending leaves you hanging, but hard-core fans can go to the manga to find more closure. Even with the restriction on the length of the anime, the characters are well-developed, each displaying intense emotions and acting upon realistic motivations. The art and the directing, especially, in this anime were great. The music is sometimes eerie, gothic quality and other times intense and electronic, which complements the juxtaposition of religion to contemporary society. I must've listened to the soundtrack 100 times already. It's just amazing. I would definitely recommend this anime.
