Last Exile

Average Rating: 8.5

Animation: 10/10
Story:

The story of Last Exile begins quite slowly and begins to accelerate around the fourth or fifth episode. The world of Prestor is made up of two kingdoms, Anatory and Dissith, which is separated by a turbulent and extremely dangerous stretch of space known as the Grand Stream. Dissith finds a way to cross the Grand Stream and attack Anatory. The main characters soon find themselves amidst a long and complicated battle during a vanship race.

Characters:

The main Characters of Last Exile, Claus and Lavie, have been living together since their parents died. Their fathers were good friends, and were widely known for their venture into the Grand Stream. The characters in Last Exile have fairly unique personalities, displaying forms of honor, courage, chivalry, and even jealousy. However, I felt that one important character, Dio, was left out of the happy ending and deserved a better farewell part in Last Exile.

Music:

The opening theme to Last Exile is pretty good, but the rest of the music is mediocre. If you are looking for an anime to watch just based on music, then find another anime.

Animation:

The animation in Last Exile is quite outstanding compared to most. The effects and points of view during combat were well-chosen and give Last Exile a unique feel. The animation should make up for any points lost in music.

Comments:

I enjoyed Last Exile to an extent. I was disappointed that they left Dio's ending undeveloped, but the rest of the story was quite good and unique. If you are looking for a decent anime, give this one a try. The first few episodes aren't too great, but around the fourth episode, the story develops greatly.
