Story:

Saishu-Heiki Kanojo (Saikano for short) aka She, The Ultimate Weapon is actuallya love story.. Don't be fooled by the big guns and mass destruction.. I'm justkidding, hehehe. It's actually about this two high school students from Hokaido(mainland Japan) who goes to a simple school in a peaceful town. They liked eachother from the start, so they went on a "date", this turned out to be a badidea... In the process of learning how they should really be together.. Theylearned true love. It doesn't matter how clumsy Chise is, for Shuuji, she isstill the most beautiful girl, and only she that he will love. The peace in thetown Sapporo, something of a large industrial city with lots of people, has beenturned into ash when foreign enemies attacked the city. In the midst of chaos,Shuuji and his friends find themselves in the middle of an attack that willstart war among nations. The enemy planes suddenly gets obliterated by a fastunknown flying object. Shuuji's curiosity took him to a place that will changethe course of his life. The object crashes in a nearby building and Shuuji made a run for it, only to see his beloved Chise, not as normal.. But a weapon, the ultimate weapon.

This anime series actually started from a manga that was 2 years in the making.I think that's why the character design was a little sketchy. The story is verynice considering that I always hated love stories.. I gave it an 8 due to itsinconsistency and lack of moral dilemma. I find it rather disturbingly tragic, which in my opinion is seldom done in animes nowadays. Remembering X the movieand EVA, I would really consider these a great plot except for what they did on some of the last few episode (I'm trying not to spoil it for everyone whohasn't seen it) but its really worth watching. I would recommend this to thehopeless-romantic and those who like people die like bugs, with no mere value. In the end, just remember to turn on the lights and move far away from the TV (or monitors, for you guys) when watching this.

Saishu-Heiki rules! wo0t!

Characters:

Okay, like I said.. it blows. The character design is well met and unique.. Ihaven't seen the characters here that resemble character from other animes, (i.e. EVA characters and Nadeseico, weird ne?) It actually looks pretty much like the manga series, exactly the same to be precise. Somehow, I feel that it needs more, expecting it's an anime and not white paper with motionless character with bubble captions on their heads. If the movie works out, I would definitely *wish* for a redesign.

Shuuji: This is the main male character. I thought he was being an ass and being mean to Chise all the time, he proved me wrong. He is a third year high school student and used to be a track runner. He is the boyfriend of Chise. As usual, like in any love story, every girl wants him (which I hate) hero-magnetism theory, where every main female character is attracted to a certain male or vice versa.

Chise: Though she is slow and clumsy, she never thought Shuuji would say "yes" when she asked him out (weird, kids this days), they come together, fall in love and she is pretty happy. Chise becomes a weapon for the military in order to defend Japan during the war. It's really hard to describe what they did toChise, they turned her to a machine, yet still a human who can feel pain andhave emotions. Chise doesn't feel very well about her new duty, she has a weakSelf-confidence, cries always and every time and sometimes you get the impression "gomenasai" (I'm sorry) is the only word she can say. Her motto is to be strong.. I got nothing bad to say about Chise.. I hate myself. I'm unfair.

Akemi: Akemi is one of Shuuji's and Chise's classmates. She appears to be moremature and sometimes arrogant and it doesn't look as if she would like Chise. She is jealous that Chise (her really close childhood friend) is Shuuji's girlfriend. She tries everything to get Shuuji to give her some sweet loving (normal sex, but it would be nice if it was yaoi sex) doh! there I go again with yaoi...

Music:

The music is very well tuned, you have the pop and all that. An acoustic guitaris pretty much the dominant instrument in this series. The songs containdepressing, lively and classical compositions. The OST's worth the 1-hour 15minutes download time.. eto.. I mean worth buying from the CD Company.

Animation:

They did a great job on overall animation.. A few CG effects and well drawn backdrops and world associations. It looks like they put a lot more effort on makingthe backgrounds, planes, and everything that is in there than making thecharacter look good. It all turned out fine.. I really like the details, especially of a rotting corpse and incapacitated people.

This is probably the anime that's gotten me closest to crying at teh ending. The character development was second to non and you couldn't help but feel for their almost doomed relationship. The direction int he manga is just a little better 'caus ei felt they had more room to build suspense but it takes away NOTHING from the anime. Both the intro and ending song were brilliant and almostbring a tear to the eye just hearing em (especially after you've watched it). I rate this for anyone who's a fan of intense drama and fated love stories. Two HUGE thumbs up!

The first time i saw this review,i thought this is another boring love story. But after watching it recently,i think it has a nice storyline. The characters are nicely described too.Too bad the ending is so tragic. Somehow,it reminds me of "eva".......
