Story:
The story is quite out there. Psychotic people, a person who represents the angel of death, your every day average synthetic (fake) humans. Not much different from your ordinary life huh? Each episode tends to revolve around a new character in a primary city (my guess this city is either Tokyo or near by to it). Yet it is a whole, characters are connected, there is a somewhat primary story in this anime. The synthetic humans are something to keep on mind, they have abilities to devour average human beings, adjust their physical appearance, and usually steal the identity of someone which they have killed. This anime also focuses on the characters deepest thoughts, just about all of them have some major problem which usually is depression about some issue in their lives. |

Characters:
Each character is unique in their own special yet scary way. Due to seeing and understanding their lives, which are filled with great sadness and mistakes. The characters set up deserves the 10 it recieves in this review, they are just that far out there in their minds. |

Music:
There is not much music or sounds beyond the basic sounds needed for the scenarios. I only really seemed to enjoy the ending theme. But because thats the only real music it barely deserves a 6. |

Animation:
The animation is fairly decent. The coloring is kind of plain and the detail is of a lacking quality. Is it really that bad? No it isn't horrible, but it isn't anywhere near award winning either. It still gives the feel of somewhat a realistic look for the scenarios the anime represents at times. It is good for the concept I would say at the most. |

Comments:
Though its creation process is not that impressive, the concept and the characters make it worth watching. If sci-fi's and anime's that leave you asking yourself many questions about your own existence and about what is "really" around you, this is definitly the anime for you!. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Rating: 7 Boogiepop Phantom is one of the most unique anime I have seen. Although this series is only 13 episodes, the story unfolds quite nicely. The first thing that intrigued was how all the different episodes were somehow connected, and I found that to be an interesting way to tell such a not-so-interesting story. While I don't want to give away anything, I would say that while this interwoven style is cool, it only lasts for so long, and then Boogiepop becomes just another ho-hum anime. There isn't much character development, and that hurts this series. Not that the characters weren't deep, but there wasn't enough time to really elaborate on any one character, so the story itself feels less cohesive. Overall, I won't overwhelm you with words, Boogiepop is an alright series. It is worth seeing, because it is original and originality is scarce nowadays in anime. Submitted on June 11, 2005 |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Rating: 7 I would give it a 6.5 which would round to a 7 but I dunno, i think I sould have gone with the 6 because its weird like its watching the first episode of Paranoia Agent and that was an anime that I didnt really understand UNTIL I saw some more. Yes I like to firgure things out but I dont like things that I CAN't figure out, because I just have to let them be. I think instead of watching this, You gotta watch GASH BELL. an anime you will be able to understand so well you might have tears in your eyes. Yes its comedy and the Drama that makes your eyes teary and it somehow softens your heart. I like this because I relate it to my friends, if they could do that for me. Only if I had friends who would actually risk there life for me. This made me think and I am starting to beleive that friends are precious and i should be able to die for my friend even if I have many important things. I always want a true frind who is loyal and I would be just as loyal as whoever my friend would be. Thats what I beleive in a friend who would do anything to help the other person. This anime is very emotional like that. so watch gash bell and also One Piece, I like anime that has something to do with my life like Naruto who would risk his life to save SASUKE even if he has to put his life in danger. One Piece as well the main Character Luffy D. Monkey, very funny guy but when his friends get hurt he will do what he believes in. The Law of Ueki, another NEw anime, I love his justice, its jus Great, I like people who aren't cocky and think only about themselves. I wish I had some kinda power to stop people like that, beat Ossama bin laden for his SELFISH acts, Revenge is a sin, instead you should forgive but there is an extent, I agree 9/11 was going to far, jus pissed me off. I dont think that is justice, and nobody does either. Even though this doesn't relate to Gash Bell AT ALL, I would like you to watch Gash Bell unless your afraid you might get addicted because it is very addicting. Submitted on May 21, 2005 |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Rating: 8 Back when TRSI first released this I was only like 14-16 or something (I can't remember when it came out). That was also before this heydey of internet subbing and manga translating where you can find just about anything to suit your tastes. Back then you more often than not had to really take your chances with ordering from a mail order catalogue, or the small selection of titles at major stores of the time. Your only guide being Animerica or the small anime columns in video game magazines (Gamefan had a 2 page one about stuff in japan which I think I remember seeing Evangelion in before I ever touched an issue of Animerica). Fortunately there was a small rental place in my city which got in ALL anime that came out (I'm sure they still do, but I stopped going there a while ago for personal reasons) otherwise I probably would have never seen this one. And I'm glad I did. To this day, I still hardly know what the hell happened (I've kind of forgotten too) but I remember being totally entranced by it. The opening song was like none other I'd heard at the time, and I think it's still fairly rare to use such a slow, downbeat song for an opening. The ending was to my young ears a tad bizarre too but both still really hold out for me and I listen to them every once in a while. I think this still stands as one of the more interesting and thought provoking works on the market, if only because of the rarity of more esoteric and adult series in general. So if you're looking for something different then look here. If you want reccomendations for other slightly similar series, I'd say check out Elfen Lied, Ghost In The Shell Stand Alone Complex (first and 2nd gig both), and maybe Serial Experiments Lain (I didn't really get that show at the time either, now that I'm older I think it's time to watch this and that again).
