Sounds like fun but only six episodes :(

Any kiddy animes I could download for my little sister?
She likes Rozen Maiden, Sailor Moon, Disgaea, Haruhi Suzumiya, Utawarerumono, and Chrno Crusade.

Any opinions about Planetes and in particular the anime vs. manga?
From the older posts I gathered there's a few good people here who really liked the anime.

Edit: I read the manga and have now watched the first 6 eps of the anime. The anime could have been good but there's far too much slapstick for my taste. It's a real pity since hard scifi doesn't really crop up that much.
The manga is slightly better in that aspect but it feels seriously rushed.

I believe KunJinky recommended it to me when I requested some anime. Haven't seen it yet, but he's got good tastes.

Ergo Proxy and Noein are two animes that remind me of what I expect from a good anime. Not just being extremely technical with alot of leetspeak terms, but there's something with the way the story is told that just reminds me of what i look forward to, and why i regret wasting time on stuff like black cat and utawarerumono.

Watched Planetes first ep, didn't like the animation and the characters and story bored me so I droped it. Maybe it develops some substance after a while, but the first episode was a big turnoff. Not even live-evil could get me to watch it.

Doesn't necesserely fit in the schema above, but try some ghibli movies like Spirited away, Kiki's delivery service, my neighbour totoro etc.
Ichigo Mashimaro and Hamtaro could work as well. At least they're hella funny.

Azumanga, Di Gi Charat, Kodomo no Omocha, Uninhabited Planet Survive
Angelic Layer, Card Captors, uhm... Clamp stuff.

Maybe something else from here,

It gets more serious later. However, what do you mean by "hard sci-fi?"

That is sci-fi that isn't fantasy.
The term "Hard Science Fiction" is credited to Astounding Stories editor P. Schuyler Miller who first coined the phrase in the 1950's. Generally, it means a literary work of science fiction that uses real, established science as a motivator for the plot and its characters. For more in-depth exploration, writer Chris Moriarty has an excellent article on what Hard SF is suppose to encompass, and how it is viewed in the literary world.

From HardSF.net.

Edit: The actual opposition in my opinion is between "as far as we know this could be possible and is plausible" and "unless new fundamental breakthroughs are made this would not be possible". The latter is basically just fantasy although in a technologically permeated setting.

Ah, ok, I get it now. And agree.

I was going to say in many ways, it's the opposite of Black Lagoon.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni,

Any word from those watching it? I read about them and I like the way it sounds. I'm looking for an anime to take FSN's place, but doesnt have to be the same genre. I liked the description on this, but teh cover looked childish.

Garasu no Kantai

Same minus the childish part.

I was also thinking of picking up some older stuff I havent seen. Outlaw Star, Excel Saga, and Escaflowne are some choices for me. Aslso, I really liked Texhnolyze and anything like it would be GREAT.

Edit:
KERORO GUNSOU
I chose this one.

higurashi is pretty sick, and you'd not want a 10 year old watching it.

Alright.

Well, I started downloading the first three episodes of Keroro Gunsou. There are hardly any seeds for HB. I took the torrents on BU's list. Is there a better group to get it from?
