I'm not quite sure what it is you are asking. This is a torrent or irc site, not a direct download one. so in order to answer your question you need to be a little more specific in how you want to download.

If you're looking to download via irc read this http://www.baka-updates.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=78

If you're looking to download via torrent then you need to get a bit torrent program (ie azureus, bitcomet...etc) install it, download the torrent file of the anime you want, doubleclick that file to get it started.

Can't be any more specific till I know what you know or don't know.

Also you might want to post questions like this in the Technical Support forum, just to keep things tidy ;)

yes to your question about the torrent, they (seeders/leechers, whatever ya call'em) have to be online as far as having their torrent program going that is. The nice thing of torrent as compared to something like kazaa and other similar programs is that you can not only download from people that have the complete file, but those that only have partial as well.

lol, yes irc is used for downloading as well. I don't know much about what channels and such to get particular anime, that's something you have to track down or hopefully someone else will answer.

Good luck

The torrent is always online. All users (sometimes only a few people, sometimes 10,000+) connect to the torrent - and thus to each other - and you download from them. Seeders they come they go, but you can always connect to the torrent to download and upload.
Until the torrent gets old and no-one's on it anymore so it gets canceled, that is... but that only happens to really old or really unpopular torrents.

Have you registered yourself as a user on the main baka-updates site? If you have, go to the "releases" page and there will be a little blue dot thing on the right of the episode you want. Click that to download the torrent file.
DVD rips are not available via torrent though - you have to hie yon ass onto IRC for those.
