So guys which rpgs are your all time favorites?

Mine would have to be Lunar: Silver star story complete and Lunar 2: Eternal blue complete as well as Phantasy star 4.

Lunar 1 and 2 are pretty much the only games to have EVER make me cry becuse of how good the story was, and Phantasy star 4 was my first rpg I ever played. I love how it has an entire solar system to explore rather then just a planet and it's manga style cut sceens that tell the story

Man, this is one of those questions where you'll think of a couple answers and then remember something else two hours later. So, yeah, gonna list it up, but just bear in mind that this is probably only what comes to mind right now (and not in any kind of order)...

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Best in the Zelda series by fuckin' miiiiiiles.

Planescape: Torment
This game is so underated/unknown it's not funny. If you're into any D&D games (like the Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter games) then you should check this out.

Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain
This game probably has the best voice acting I've ever heard in any game. Forget the rest of the LoK series too... this game was a classic that later got butchered with all those sequels.

Final Fantasy VIII
If I had to be pick just one FF game then this would be it. First time I was actually convinced by a romance in a FF game. Worthwhile giving a heads up to FFIV and FFVII as well. Those would make the list if I were going with more than one FF game.

Tales of Phantasia
Not too well known. I think you need to grab an emulator and a translated version of this game to play it in English. Anyways, interesting and different combat system and a decent storyline. Def worth a mention.

Diablo
Brought action/RPG to the mainstream... and vastly superior to its sequel.

World of Warcraft
The game that's big dicking all the MMO competition out there. Leaves a sour taste in my mouth just thinkin' about it, but I gotta acknowledge it.

Ultima Online
First MMO ever? This game had such an interesting system of progression, and I have no idea why modern MMOs don't take from that, but whatever. Anyways, this was mad fun when it came out.

Breath of Fire III
Best game in the BoF series. The fishing minigame alone was hours of fun.

Lunar: Silver Star Story
Best in the Lunar series... I dunno... I just liked the story on this one more.

Couple of things to bear in mind... I never completed Chrono Trigger or Xenogears... I know both of those make it fairly high up on a lot of lists. Might get round to them some day.

Also, you guys reckon things like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, etc. can be considered RPGs?

Any Castlevania that has a leveling system with stats and shit is an action RPG imo

as for RE and Silent Hill those are survival horror games and dont really have RPG elements to them.

i hated the card spell system in FF8. Made it so you basically couldn't use your best spells without weakening your stats... Otherwise I loved 8. But 7 is still my favorite.

Oh wow, someone actually played that. I like d&d based games but I never did check that one out, despite how much I love the planescape setting.

Perhaps I should.

I preordered a copy of Baldur's Gate II from my local EB. When I went to pick it up they're all like "Yeah, you get a free copy of this game 'cuz you preordered," and I'm all like "Sweet... free game."

Anyways, I figure it's gotta be a pile of shit game since it's not even in a box (just paper sleeves for the CD). But after I clocked BG2 I thought I might as well pop it in and see what it's like. Well, damn... I got the better game for free. Planescape pretty much ripped the shit out of both BG1 and BG2. Needless to say I was pretty freakin' surprised, right? :p

The story, world, and characters are really what make it shine. Definitely worth a shot if you're a fan of the BG games.

xenogears really goes downhill near the end of the game. It's like they ran out of money or something and super rushed it to mediocrity.

well it had it's strong points.

the card system was bad and the end plot with the witch was terrible

but the graphics were tops, the music was good even by FF standards, and the overall artistic design was great. And there are just some parts of the plot that always stuck with me, like that amphibious invasion, the train heist, boarding action between gardens, and the after-credits ending. Always atmospheric.

Oh and random encounters matched the average level of your party, so they always provided decent exp no matter where you went.

Since their are a ton of rpgs coming out this fall is their any one in particular you guys are looking foward to playing?

For me it has to be Dragon Quest 4 ds. I'm a huge dragon quest fan so having a chance to own and play one of the few ones in the series I'm missing is a big deal for me
