Firk ding blasted MKV crap

Postby Moryath » Tue Jul 15, 2008 6:06 am

Seriously guys, whose retarded idea was it to start prioritizing MKV formats in the torrent list?

Makes it a pain in the ass. Most of the stuff I grab I want to put on my PSP for viewing on the go, which means I have to send it through re-render. And there IS no easy way to get the crap-ass MKV format to render properly in a single pass.

Now, just to FIND a file that can be converted without half a dozen tries, I have to go hunting for the original group's torrent area and praying to god they have an alternate torrent.

Bring back the AVIs.

That seems odd o_o doesn't it take, like, 5 seconds to demux mkvs? I've never actually tried it so I don't know though.
I suppose it's a hassle. Because then you have to make the subs work. Yeah, it sounds tricky.
I wonder if there's some better converting software around for duding mkvs to psp-friendly format.

We collectively decided (by majority poll on the baka-updates news page) that, since the current software allowed only one type of file for each release, that HD / .mkv was better for most people.

There should hopefully come a time that the b-u staff get around to finishing their better site code for multi format releases things.

Demux works.

I've never actually tried it so I don't know though.

Not a single freaking one. I've tried more than a dozen. I can *sometimes* get them to work *IF* the people who made the MKV were very specific on their subtitle formatting.

Really? Funny. I never saw that poll come up. Couldn't tell you what the current "poll" is either.

MOST people bookmark the releases page, not the "news" page that has for years been static and BORING for months at a time with no updates.

You want to get a better idea when your "poll" is something meaningful rather than "fluffy bunnies, lolicon, or chocolate?" Try putting it where people actually go. I'd certainly have voted if it were present on the updates page.

There should hopefully come a time that the b-u staff get around to finishing their better site code for multi format releases things.

Is that before or after Duke Nukem Forever is finished? (come to think of it maybe you have the same coders).

well you seem very motivated. Maybe you can volunteer your coding services to them.

I have the home page bookmarked. I like seeing the occasional news and poll. If your sausage fingers don't want to expend half a calorie making one little click to check the home page, knowing tough business matters are relayed via the news/poll area... I believe that's your problem.

Good day sir.

Sausage fingers? Please.

As long as I've been visiting, the "home page" has been a joke. It collected dust and was home to little polls whereby nonsensical items were asked.

Never ONCE until this "decision" was something important located there.

Why are we talking about eeepc what?

Yeah, the b-u index page is pretty useless. I do check it out every month or so just to see what's going on.

Hmm.
Well, we'll have to wait for the dudes to finish working on duke nukem so they're not to busy to make up the new b-u site, I guess. Until then, there are always other torrent hubs such as tokyo toshokan and stuff.

Yah.

i meant that instead of using a psp, use an eeepc. Bigger screen and still very light. And not expensive.

Someone who is on the go a lot, who has to set stuff to encode overnight so he can put it on the PSP and watch it while he's away from home.

You know. The same sort of person who'd do the SAME DAMN THING to put it on an iPod.

i was just offering you an alternative idea, asswipe. Quite frankly you bitch and moan a lot about this mkv problem but I don't see you contributing anything. It's one thing to complain as hard as you are if you were paying some kind of subscription, but it's a free site.

Is it? it seems more expensive that's for certain...I was suggesting an eeepc because considering what it has it isn't much costlier than a psp...can get one for $250 on low end

edit: looked it up. I'd have to say I don't know what the fuss is, it's a full pound heaver, costs 400+ more, has less battery life when comparing the lower end versions, and it's bulkier...that and I don't trust MSI yet, their products have a tendency to be shoddy. My own 14" laptop is cheaper than this MSI wind...

250 dollar eee is like the 2gig SSD model ><

You're supposed to wait for the linux msi wind, it'll be 399.
I'd buy an eee but they all use stupid SSDs and are still on celerons :/
wind will have 80gb hdd and 2 ram slots

the markII eeepc's are switching from celerons i do believe. And what's wrong with SSD? Works just fine...the only thing i have to complain about is that eeepc's have tiny harddrive space...but for Moryath's purpose of watching video on a very portable device it fits the bill better i think. 10' and over 2 lbs is too big for that.

I might consider this $400 linux wind thing you mentioned though. Does it have a standalone graphics accelerator?

Yea that's my problem with SSDs... not enough space. and the new 8.9 EEEs are more expensive than the linux wind.

also none of the netbooks have a graphics accelerator.
about the only thing you can play on these smalls laptops is unreal tournament.

So.. it's A YEAR AND A HALF later... didja get that webpage code fixed to be able to list more than one version of an episode? BTW, that's the most retarded excuse for a board designed to host links EVAR.

It hurts me everytime to come here, because there's such a shitty choice of torrents, and half the time you have 'releases' posted but won't put up links to them. Why oh why did Tokyotosho go down, yet this site still stays up..?

Oh, almost forgot.. a bunch of the shitbucket MKV torrents today have WMA downloader trojans attached to them too. y antivirus picked them up after about 5Mb were downloaded.

PS - Isn't it great having the ability to mux everything and the kitchen sink into a simple video file that only had 1 audio track to begin with? It's SOOO much easier to spread viruses now.
