Books You've Recently Read

When I was forced to read Lord of The Flies in high school school I hated it. But now I see similar real world situations with the whole "Beastie" thing EVERYWHERE. It's quite amazing how right the writer was.

Really, I read that book in grade 8 and I loved it. I loved Roger, why did he have to die. I loved the killing.

I agree. Though, in my case I had to write papers on it and take a test, so I read detailed chapter summaries on later half of the book. But again, I do see it's importance now, as it is so applicable to a lot of politics and mob mentality now days (and I guess always have been).

Same reason I didnt read through LOTR

OK, 2/3 of the first book, before the actual adventure starts, it can be somewhat boring. But if you get through that, it's absolutely great.

Bah to all of you. I really liked Lord of the Flies. A lot better than all that boring stuff by Maya Angelou they made us read. Or Pride and Prejudice and the other junk that came out of that genre

Ditto. It also reminded me of another book I'd read about a young boy, Phillip, who's passenger boat gets hit by a German sub, setting him afloat on the open ocean with a random black guy, and blind nonetheless. Anyone remember the name of it?

As far as I remember we got to read Brave New World (whilst boring it was nice to familiarize myself with the ideas that inspired many), The Go-Between (craptacular as far as I'm concerned), and Of Mice and Men (probably the best thing I was forced to read in HS).

I'm sure there were more, but those are the ones I remember.

I love Animal Farm, Of Mice and Men is OK too...but I wasn't forced to read this in 9th grade...I was forced to read Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry -_- which kinda made me bear some grudges against books about racism because I have to miss the fun in English class while others enjoyed it...
