New thread since I can't find the last one anywhere.

Not quite sure where I left off last time I posted, but I'll try get us started...

Forest Mage by Robin Hobb
I'll start off by saying I've enjoyed most of Hobb's works. I wasn't too blown away by the Liveship Traders trilogy and I certainly didn't like the fact that she continued the Fitz stories with the Fool trilogy, but I loved the original Farseer trilogy. Her new series, the Soldier Son trilogy, is equally amazing. I think most people are stuck on the idea that Fitz is a more likeable character than Nevare, and they therefore don't like this new series. But to me that's half the appeal. In a way Nevare is more human in that he's flawed.

Anyways, onto the book itself... I was blown away by the second book in the series. Basically, Forest Mage took the series in an entirely different direction than where the reader thought it was heading with the end of the first. Top notch work from Hobb once again. Looking forward to the third installment.

The Bonehunters by Steven Erikson
I always take Erikson's books with a grain of salt since the characters seem less believable than in any other series I continue to read... I just find myself wondering why everyone seems to be a philosopher. Still, entirely entertaining series for entirely different reasons.

The Bonehunters was kind of a weak effort to follow up Midnight Tides, which was outstanding when compared to the rest of the series. One of Erikson's strengths is his ability to finish off each book with a bang. The Bonehunters seemed to lack that wonderful climax he's so accustomed to providing. Hopefully the next one will be better.

Oh Robin Hobb how it brings back memories.I read the Farseer trilogy and Fool trilogy but I skipped the Liveship ones. They bored me. Ive recently been reading Chuck Palahunik recently. I started with Haunted then moved on to Fight Club now im reading Diary. Though Diary isnt wowing me at the moment but my friend said its screwed up enough so I am reading on

I've been getting into books as of late.

I recently read ender's game, a classic sci fi you all know by now.

The hornblower series, wich is some good classical reading.

Read a few books by neil gaiman too, at Ash's vigorous recommendation.

Most of the Hobb fans I talk to seem to love The Liveship Traders books. For me it wasn't so much that I didn't like them, it's just that I felt Hobb was more at home when writing in the first person.

I recommend picking up the new Soldier Son trilogy if you have time. My second most anticipated book of the year is the third installment in the series (my first most anticipated book being the next book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series).

Interracial Intimacies: Sex, Marriage, Identity, and Adoption by Randall Kennedy

truthfully i don't care to much for Mr. Kennedy ever since i witnessed him speaking at Nassau community a couple years back
regardless of how i thought he was in real life, he's actually a good author
his books are VERY factual and he also puts in popculture references/slang to help you read along
it's odd because i get bored with reading some books but this one and "Nigger" had me sit down with a blunt and think about things in a different light
pick it up if you're interested...if not suck a mean one -_=j/k

Drizzt is the coolest character he has. Love drizzt.

I just read Animal Farm again. I couldn't stand it much. Honestly I was just annoyed by the book. I understand the point they were trying to get across with the pigs but I thought Orwell was just annoying. I used to like this book when I was angsty but meh, I just really don't care what he's trying to get across now.

1984 was supposed to be more serious, with animal farm being a childish substitute, but I think I'm past the stage where anti-utopian books are cool.

It's interesting when you read his other works, like Keep the Aspidistra Flying, you come across the same themes but applied in more real-world scenarios.

When I was forced to read Lord of The Flies in high school school I hated it. But now I see similar real world situations with the whole "Beastie" thing EVERYWHERE. It's quite amazing how right the writer was.

Wikipedia Article
Wikipedia wrote:...how civility created by man fails and how man always shall turn to savagery, using the allegory of a group of school children trapped on a desert island who attempt to govern themselves and fail disastrously.

I took it more as an allegory of how baseless fears ("beastie") are exploited and abused by leaders to scare crowds and then control and direct them (like Hitler or Bush).

Yea, 'cause there wasn't any. They got scared of a shadow of a dead parachutist, and one of the boys used that fear to unite boys and do irrational things rather than burning the fire for the rescue, and eventually drove them into enough panic to kill two boys.

In the last month I've read the Shadowleague Trilogy by Maggie Furry. It's a good fantasy series, I've moved on to the author's other series. Good character development /no1 .
I seek to do my best in all of life's endeavors.
It doesn't always work though Dammit.

Angels and Demons

Kick-ass book = Violent, scientific, exciting, historical, and sexy
Angels and Demons has all of these. I has a guy that's about to rape a hot woman, and a yogamaster in bed.

A MUST READ
