I was a massive fan of the original Starcraft game(s) and I've always maintained that I'd rather Blizzard didn't bring out a sequel for a few reasons. Mainly, a large portion of the original company no longer works for Blizzard, and whilst this is less true for those that worked on Starcraft (since it mainly applies to those from Blizzard North), it still makes me somewhat skeptical of their ability to make a worthy sequel.

But rather than trying my hand at being one of those cool people that preemptively bash games they've never even played, I've decided to wait and see.

From what I can tell it looks very promising. Graphically, very solid. But as graphics were/are never the issue for me, that takes us to gameplay. And, unfortunately, there isn't a whole lot to go off at this point. What I'm most interested in so far are the Phase Prism units. These things will offer a massive amount of new strategy to the game... I'm basically hoping they're a promise of more to come. I was also very glad to see that the original units operated in much the same way they always have.

So at this point I'm hopeful, but still holding myself from setting those expectations too high... optimistic yet realistic.

Starcraft is by far the best Fast paced RTS game there is. Period. No point in arguing. (Notice Fast Paced).
The age of empires series is a great series, but unfortunately I don't find it as fast paced as Starcraft is and in my opinion is less unit control based and is more like.. big armys.. where you rush into eachother like in braveheart, and the guys run into eachother and then they're not fighting but they're joining their side instead and then there's a big polka. (Not played very much Age of Empires so I wouldn't know very much about it.. but from the little that I've played that's what I think ^^) Old thread but I just had to post in it since Starcraft is made of epic and win.

I'm a fan of blizzard games.
Played WoW for 2 years, D2 two years and SCBW 2 years.
I look forward to rushig people in the next few months in SCII.

Oh the original announcement was like 3 months ago. ( when i still played wow)

I really liked how all races in BW were even for online play. If you know how to counter opponents moves.
I was godly with tank/gols; Zero Clutter maps were the best.

Only RTS noobs would complain about AoE being slow.

Well, it is considerably easier to do a zergling/mutalisk rush than a knight or archer rush since starcraft only uses TWO resources.

I actually played in the swedish national team so I wouldn't say I'm a noob at it, and zergling muta "rush"? You don't rush mutas, when you're going for mutas, you always build them as fast as possible since zerglings on the defence can only keep you alive for a small period of time. And a muta rush can only be considered a "rush" if the opponent is teching..

And about the two resources thing.. omg. I lul'd bigtime. Some resources you use minimal amounts of, and then again, in AoE you can use as many workers as possible on a single node of resources, whilst in Starcraft you can only have one. you can place your dropoff point right next to the resource making it much easier to collect resources in AoE.
Which makes you fully capable of mashing out a shitload of units without having to expand even once.

And I didn't complain about it being slow, I like slow RTS games too, but I fancy fast paced ones more since it's more UC and skill in it imo. And I also fancy Turnbased strategy games too (<3 Civ)
