I'm fucking done with RPGs. I've come to the realization that they just suck... A lot of the time they bore the hell out of me, just to get new plot points and story development when I could be reading a novel or watching animu to get the same effect in less time. I don't even really have a want to play rpgs anymore, I just want games that keep me excited and having fun. WELL, then again, if the rpg's are portable I could see a large exception, because one of the main problems I have with them is having to sit on my ass doing rpg stuff for hours. Being able to move around makes all the difference.

Out of curiosity frumpl, does your frustration apply mainly to (classic) JRPGs or all CRPGs?

After DQ8 I swore I'll never ever again buy a game with random battles.
Now I've gone back to the roots and spent the entire week playing only roguelikes. And I'm having a blast. I think CRPGs aren't just about the stories. A lot of the appeal in good games comes from obsessing over the ultimate character build (which there isn't if the designers were clever, so you'll spend time trying out different stuff and then going back to do some more tweaking to see if you could yet improve it) and other 'trivial' stuff.

i looked at the line up for the ps3 after the first 4 months. there are 11 games I want to play.

On the 360 there are only 3 games I want to play.

CRPGs = Computer (or arguably even console stuff) RPGs. Just to differentiate it from proper RPGs, you know the kind you play with your mates sitting around a table.

Right now I think X360 is the "best" console objectively viewed because it has the same capabilities as the PS3 (if you check comparison shots, many multi platform games even look better on it) without the ridiculous price tag and a better game library. Wii is obviously a matter of taste and can't really be compared.
We'll see how things shift in 2007.

Xbox needs more than Gears of War and Halo 3 to be worth the price. It'll be the same story as Xbox. They have a few trademark names and then the rest of the games suck balls.
NINJA GAIDEN, HALO, KOTOR, and FABLE. I dont' think there any any other worthwhile xbox EXCLUSIVES.

Sony's always had the best lineup, since PS1. I care a lot less about RPGs nowadays, though, since I'm always busy and have no time to dedicate to rpgs. Fight Night 3 is delicious, though. Resistance, as good as it looks, is only using 1 of the 6 graphic cells the PS3 comes with, and the internet capabilities of being able to update are topnotch. Me and my friends uploaded tons of shit onto his PS3 using USB drives. Hell, why fork over 100 more bucks for the 60GB when you can add on a external hardrive easily.

Wii I feel bad for categorising it with since it's clearly a different type of system already. Me and my friends beating the shit out of each other on Bomberman or being able to replay Sonic the Hedgehog without Emulators. It just feels fun. With a better library, they'll easily be no.1, but until then I don't think it's better than Sony.
