know about 300 kanji, past tense grammar, informal and formal...etc. not very confident in it, need to get into the JET program so i can teach english and learn Japanese. *fingers crossed*

I just got accepted to go study for a semester at Kansai Gaidai in Osaka, and I'm applying through my school to go study all of next year at Rikkyo University in Tokyo, so if all goes according to plan I should be fluent by like next fall and be where I need to be on kanji by the time I get back.

I'm also going to apply for JET after I graduate so any thing you feel like relaying to me would be much appreciated. Saddly, from the people I've talked to about it the selection process seems really random. The schools give very very specific requests for what they want in their exchange teachers, and depending on the requests it sounds like you can get shafted for stupid reasons. At my school we've had full blown jap majors get turned down for people who have
never studied japanese or been to jaapan :/

Gratz on Osaka!

I know the JET program is pretty random and competitive, that's why i have my fingers crossed, hehe. for plan B i'm looking into other organizations within large companies who hire native english speakers and offer comparable incentive packages like JET. so even is it falls through, there are still plenty of other opportunities.

From the people I've talked to, it sounds fairly easy to get a contract working for one of the private language schools if you don't get in with JET, you just lose out on getting to work in a geniune secondary school environment. In any case, sounds like our paths could cross a few years down the road.

no doubt about me going to Japan to learn more of its language, culture, and general way of life.

it's pretty much the base of my college career. it's all leading up to absorbing as much as i possible can, and i serously can't wait. at the earliest i won't know if i make the cut for JET until Jan-Feb. applications for '07 haven't been released, it should be any week now.

a professor at my university is a JET alumni, so any tips, hints, or knowledge he gives me i'll be sure to pass it on. /no1

Man I want to live in Jap. New Zealand suks so does Korea. Korean have no sense of individualism.

So which word is it?

Words like Saisoku. Reminds me of InitialD.

I'm surprised one of the livejournal account that they linked to actually like Golf & Mike....oh yes they happened to be in my school and one of them repeat his senior year and the other his sophomore....they are weeaboos (wait...they're not white...but they're thai...but whatever same thing =_=...uh...Japanophiles?) Too bad I don't have any paddles around me at school :(

and they sing in Japanese...even though they hardly know japanese actually I hear that one of them take Japanese level 2....which means that I might actually be better in Japanese than them :o

And yet they make money from Japanese fangirls without having to really know the language inside out....this is the world of absurdity, I say

You may be right. I've just never seen any TV shows like that in other countries.

Wow Weeaboo. There too many of them in a multi culture area. Baka-updates, well isn't it full of weeabos?

Mtv or American Idol ring any bells?

There's a difference between enjoying Japanese games, anime, manga, etc and wanting/pretending to be Japanese when you're not.
