It's actually cheaper to go to school in the US if you're in international student and have any kind of brains/talent. I work for some koreans that own a small teriyaki place and their daughter goes to some crazy ass art school in NY and has a full ride for all 25k of tuition/books/room and board.

As for going to university vs going to community/loser college the difference lies in the environment mostly. If you're not that sociable of a person and are just trying to get credits to transfer to the school you want your degree from, than community college all the way, but you miss out on the refferences, campus life, and exchange programs available at a university/private college.

All you really need to get free money in the states are high SAT scores(I got like 1k/term for a modest 1400, pre sat revamp, so if you had a near perfect score and a solid GPA to back it up, the world is your oyester), and a solid idea of what you want to to.

and I only called it "loser college" because the ammount of free beer is drastically lower there :swt:

Scholastic Aptitude Test. (Freaking Kun...)

It's standard and, for the most part, required by most schools just to get in. Depending on the campus, you can usually get a local scholarship. There are also other scholarships you can get based off your score, but you have to find them, whereas the local campus would award you one (say 1k/term) for use just at that campus.

Also, if you can score high, between 2200 and 2400, you could more than likely get a full-ride at some schools.

Do any of you who took the SAT remember your score and would like to share? I made a 1250. My grade on it wasn't important though, my highschool standing gave me automatic acceptance into any Texas public college.

you get AUTOMATIC acceptance? wtf.

My SAT score was....well I took the SAT 7 times ^ ^;

My first score was my best, 760 english, 680 math (1400).

I was going for engineering so I kept trying to get a better math score. And I did, but each time I retook the test my english score kept going down T_T

And I definitely didn't get accepted in to the Berkeley or UCLA :(

$2,000 Tuition due for the fall quarter. And every $ of it is paid by my parents. You got to love Russian parents that know how important education is.

I'm so lucky to be Russian.

Ha. Ha. No. Your one example of a korean who gets a free ride doesn't constitute reality. International students have to pay assloads of money in U.S. schools unless they earn scholarships. This is why top universities love taking in foreign students.

I had a 1400 and got nothing. And 1k/term is practically nothing. Getting a high SAT score used to mean something, but nowadays it just means you have a CHANCE of going to a good school. And only if you did all sorts of extracurricular activities, leadership crap, etc etc.

First off, I was trying to hint at the fact that there is much more money in scholarships available to international students than the average american student. I'm not quite sure how it works, since I'm not an international student in the US, but I know multiple people who have the same thign going at my school, all of who are from east asia, so maybe it's an asian thing? I know if I get accepted to this exchange in Japan I'm going for, not only do they pick up half my overall expenses, but I get a fucking monthly stipend.

As for you getting a 1400 and not getting jack for it, I am going to assume you didn't apply for anything at all. I got a 1350 on my score and it is LAW in Oregon that state schools must give me money, and most private institutions do as well. Also, to touch on Singyz's point, Oregon State U. has to accept any one with a 3.2 or higher gpa that applies as long as they are not dangerous or anything.

But really, the only type of people that have trouble getting into college in the US are white people with good grades, mostly because we represent the biggest demographic applying to 4 year schools.

Oh I certainly applied. Money is money. But I got nothing at all. And I live in California, not Oregon or Texas. University here is competitive.

-_- white people with good grades do NOT have trouble getting into college. Just because you didn't get into Harvard or UC Berkeley doesn't mean you're having a hard time getting in to a university.

It's racist again white people, yeah. We are the visible minority in places. There's no immigration control or requirements to get in here. There's a few different reasons why we can't get into university though. One is that all the asians get 99% in all their courses and rush to the uni's and no one else has a chance of getting accepted with grades lower than 98% in everything. Another reason is similar to that, but other than scores; the uni's are just way too packed with applicants. There are only a few Canadian universities; that's a problem too. Here we have hundreds of art and game schools among only three universities, one's actually a tech school. It's just bad. I have to apply this month to the tech uni, just so that they can see my application. Even without knowing your grades or anything, you have to apply now.

I hate local Thai school students (the top ranking ones), they seem to look down at international school students =_= and they seems to even plan to take the english courses in the university...well heck...I'm not studying abroad, and I'm somewhat struggling right now....and there's no such thing as community college here

the education system sucks dammit... >_>

I'm considering Holland College or some other one with a good program for doctors/teachers [teaching might make it easier to get into Japan... I hope]

When I was 14 I didn't even think about college, I was far more interested in video games. To stay on topic, still don't know what grad school to go to. Or if I'll go to grad school for that matter.
I seek to do my best in all of life's endeavors.
It doesn't always work though Dammit.

First of all...i see some of u are racists to black people...so i dislike them...because of their selfiness, they started the racist war between white vs black people...myself i don't have a prob with everybody(except of the turkish and albanian...they're the worst ever). /...

Hey Sparhawk btw could u please find Jordan Mechner to make an anime movie for the Prince of Persia ?I like this video game and i would like it as anime or 3d anime just like Final Fantasy series /heh
It would be also cool if they made the Legacy of Kain series video game an anime. /no1
