streaming audio in firefox

Postby silverace99 » Wed Sep 27, 2006 5:23 pm

so I'm playing around with firefox currently and I'm trying to get it to work with QuickTime to provide streaming audio. I got quicktime installed but firefox still says I need a quicktime plugin. I didn't have this problem when I was using Avant. Anybody know how to fix this?

lolz, Somebody switched over :D

Um, you have to restart it for stuff to take effect. The quicktime alt. codec works well, I think it has options of whether to work in FF or not, iirc I use it. the full program just plugs up my computer with stuff I don't want or need.

nvm I found the problem. Quicktime MIME types doesn't automatically default mp3's to quicktime for streaming audio. Oddly enough even if it's not automatic, it works perfectly in Avant/IE but not in firefox.

I think I may change to using firefox. Firefox and Avant by themselves are equally fast, but the FasterFox extension seems to improve page loading speed significantly. Avant has a better GUI but speed is speed.

That and the DownThemAll extension actually somehow allows me to download files at a speed that is higher than my ISP's bandwidth limitation :O

the exceeding the maximum speed thing is more due to pre-fetched packets and the awesome average timer machine, I do believe. If you know what I mean.
