They suck at making fighting games. i mean look at Ehergize and Tobal 2.

Square was the master of RPGs. They joined with enix, the #2 company, and since the quality of games has also risen, given the greater amount of resources.

I swear they have a monopoly on the RPG idustry. all they need now is to merge with Atlus and then they will be unstoppable.

FF12...
I just played a demo and it felt like playing .hack. Linear Dungeon system with retarded MMORPG style real-time battling. WTF, I'm playing a console rpg because I don't want that style of gameplay! It was about roaming and I almost fell asleep. The music was of course remixed Ueamatsu tunes, which sounded bad, and made a bad impression. It seems they were trying to do something new with what we don't want changed, however, they keep the music that we do want changed. The graphics were nice with low amounts of pixelation and fairly high res textures. It looks to have less pre-rendered FMV's and more using the character models with different camera angles. Speaking of the camera, I found it very hard and awkward to control.

The only thing that can save this game now are the characters and the plot, sadly.

Well. We have to get to the fighting style.
I think the next installment of FF is similar to this fighting style too.
Its not that similar to .hack. You need to enter command and wait for ATB too.

Monopoly? There are plenty of other good companies out there. I buy a lot of RPGs that aren't square. Been going through a ps1 binge, have played through and beaten xenogears, grandia, legend of dragoon and persona 2 in the last like, month and a half.

Dude xenogears is squaresoft, persona is atlus and Grandia is enix. I dont remmember who made legend of Dragoon but it doesn't count

...actually, it's Monolith Soft. Square licensed it for release, not developed it. After Gears, they took it to Namco, since Square wanted no more of it. Which is why there's KOS-MOS in Namco X Capcom and so on. Pedantically, yes, XenoGears is a square game, but Xeno- isn't a square property. It's owned part and parcel by Monolith.

Grandia's Game Arts, not Enix, anyway. Licensed in the UK by Ubisoft, actually. I think only III was licensed in the states by Enix? I don't know, I've never played the game. I can promise you there's no Enix on either my Grandia PSX or Grandia II boxes.


Of them all, only the Megami Tensei games were actually made by the company you list them to. In-house, and all.

grandia has always had a number of companies working on it, however 3 was different than the others grandia, grandia 2 and grandia xtreme. Square and Atlus are not the only 2 rpg companies in existance. Konami, tri-ace, nippon ichi, capcom. To name a few others not mentioned.

I got the ff12 battle demo disc with DQ8, but i never got around to trying it. From what it sounds like, it's going to be a system like Radiata stories or star ocean.

If anything, it's more like Kingdom Hearts, except you have to wait for your fucking gauge to fucking charge just to do one attack. I mean, you're not even using magic and you still have to wait for it fill up, which is really gay. That, and there's Wait Mode when your in your Menu.

I liked Kingdom Hearts though.
