Due to the amount of new users signing up to the forums being bots, I am thinking of making it e-mail validation before you can post anything. If you strongly oppose this idea, please post why you oppose it so strongly in this thread.

Post your reasons of why or why not we should have e-mail validation.

What are those bots supposed to accomplish anyway? The few bot posts I saw seems pretty random.
And yeah, we should have email validation. All the other forums do it, so it's reasonable.

Also like Singzy said at a specific amount of posts before they can make a thread.

^ I believe that was volyund.
e-mail validation, fine, whatever.
The whole number of post count till you can make a thread, no.
It's gay like waiting periods and it's just going to litter all the other threads with the usual influx of noob questions.

Oh. is it really that hard to post a few times tho. I mean you can use up 10 posts and then bam you can make all the threads you want.

There's a lot of threads from people asking dumb questions that could be answered in the FAQ or people that just want to point out a mistake in the site. They just want to have a couple of posts and leave. A smarter or lazier person would just place it in an exisiting thread instead of dealing with spamming a bunch of useless posts to get their How does I bittorents? question posted. Or you're just going to get more "bot-like" spam which the whole e-mail validation is trying to get rid of in the first place.

I say enable it
Altho it will probably not deter teh bots, Since most webforums do generally have email confirmation on by default, I'm sure the bots have some means of using that as well to continue posting.

Heh, asking people who already have accounts what they think about this. I say yes because I don't need to re-register.

It seems that you perceived that in some way that it was not meant to be perceived. I don't care what you do, I just had to add in a sarcastic comment for no reason.

Even if email validation isn't used, this image to letter thing just might do the trick.

Then sadly, perhaps more banhammers and a report option (though I really don't like these).

If there's a real person registering the accounts then obviously email verification isn't going to stop them either. There's plenty of email services out there for the exact purpose of allowing you to receive the verification email and nothing else.

Since e-mail validations work 2 out of 5 times with me I'd normally oppose it, but since I'm already registered I really don't give a damn.
