In a prior episode, Rin or Saber were terlling Shirou about the missing scabbard that someone stole from her. It was supposed to do something, like immortality.

The sheath was stolen by Shirou's adopted father and placed within Shirou ( From what I've read) so that he could survive the wounds he go from the fire and what not from the first battle between Saber and Gilgamesh. This sheath ( called Avalon) gives Shirou his miraculous healing power ( like when beserker cut him). The sheath has the ability to repel almost any attack that is sent to its holder. ( just because its a sheath doesnt mean that it can have any special abilities, I mean I didnt see any hell being raised when Saber released something similar to and energy blast from excalibur. From the definition of a sword, it shouldnt be able to do that...)

in fsn the sheath makes shirou be able to regenerate this was done by his father....and that sheath is also saber's noble fantasm(i think not sure) its called avalon....avalon is the strongest noble phantsm of saber

The only thing they could do in season two would be have another Grail War, and that wouldn't bring back Saber, so why bother? Thing I'm kinda unhaoppy about are how little they explored all the characters other than Saber/Emiya. We didn't get much backstory on Rin or Sakura, and I guess we got some on Ilya, but they alluded to her being some kind of inverted mage or something. Honestly though, it was a satisfactory ending. I'd only want a season two is Saber and Emiya got together, and that's not gonna happen so meh.




Also, I guess they could explore that whole Archer/Emiya what ever the hell you guys have been talking about since day one. I kinda want to know more about that.

Exactly my point. All we ever got was random flashbacks of Sabers past and Emiya getting saved from the conflageration caused by the grail getting touched by Kotomine.

To answer your question, they seemed to have the whole childhood friends that grew apart kinda thing going on, but that's outright speculation. For the longest time I viewed both of them as possible haremish love interests, but they never really went that way so meh. I guess we're stuck with the time worn solution of going to source material if we want the full story.
