Dammit. Had to put my car into the shop to get my transmission rebuilt. There goes $1200. I could have bought a second monitor, 3rd HDD, 2GB of RAM, some long delayed anime, and Call of Duty 2. Dammit.

'96 Mazda 626. It only has 52K miles and is in really good shape, let alone free and clear of payments (aside from insurance) so for the time being this will keep it running for another several years. It just would have been nice if Mazda wasn't using undersized transmissions in their cars until 2002.

Close, but not quite. I checked the book value on my car after I bought it and the net worth was $3000 because of the low mileage. I did shop around for rebuilt transmission prices. My price range was pretty much $1100-$1400. Depressing considering a brand new transmission is over $3000... which means it's worth more than my car. :swt:

Tried bringing the car to my step-dad's friend for a rebuild with a "small receipt" (as he put it), but we couldn't get a hold of the guy. That's really too bad too since my understanding was that this guy would have saved me around $500 or so since he would be willing to work under the table on it for my step-dad..

There simply wasn't anymore time to stall. Going through 2 quarts of transmission fluid in 2 weeks is dangerous.

It would be great to have a new car but I can't afford one for another year or so. Then again, I've always wondered what it would be like to literally live on ramen and the internet.

They used to be a station wagon back in the late 80s (or was it early 90s?), and I have no clue when they changed them into what they now are (don't know why they stopped producing the Cavalier either, but that's besides).

I've driven several of the '05 Chevy Cavaliers, and I really enjoyed the set up of the car in general. Obvoiusly a new car will run smoothly ('cept for a few rare cases), so that's nothing to worry about. I liked the way the car handled, and especially the car's driver side seating arrangement. For once, I was able to get the perfect seating distance relevant to the adjustment of the steering wheel's position. That's really hard when you're tall and can't stand trucks, SUVs, vans, mini vans, station wagons, and those new dangfangled SUV hybrid thingies.

If you ask me, SUV stands for Stuck-Under-Vehicle. Yep, that's where you'll be when you take that turn at idle and get thrown out of the car only to have it barrel roll and land on you...

I wouldn't mind a Nissan Maxima either...

Since we're talking about American cars, I find it funny that American cars are a big thing in Europe and European cars are big here. BMW's are the "black man's taxi" in Britain, acording to my Scottish friend.
