I like almost everything.

I stopped listening to rock these days even though i still like it. I've been listening to a lot of string instruments like the violin and stuff. and surprisingly a lot of pop. Drum and bass and some jazz too!

I miss 90's rock.
I like mostly acoustic and indie alternative now and a little bit of hip hop and electronic/techno since I started clubbing.

I'm crazy about african music, but I guess most people in here will recognize japanese titles better, and the japanese music scene is huge. All the anime soundtracks are really just the tip of the iceberg. Here's a few personal favorites from Japan:

  • Akino Arai (pop, a bit like MUM or björk or stinna nordenstam)
  • Asa Chang & Junray (electronica / pop)
  • BoA - (for example the album "A race of a thousand camels")
  • Cornelius (just crazy and amusing)
  • Boredoms (weird stuff, but interesting!)
  • Dried Bonito (pop-rock)
  • Hi-posi (they're nice after 20 cups of coffee)
  • Ken Ishii (techno)
  • Piana (soft pop, but great)
  • Quruli (pop-rock, very variated and well-produced)
  • Rei Harakami (and generally the stuff on Sublime Records)
  • Satoshi Tomiie (an old-school techno DJ)
  • Sayuri Ishikawa (yes it's Enka, but i think it has a lot of spirit!)
  • Deracine Ching-Dong (a punk-rock band that plays enka)
  • Takagi Masakatsu (pop)
  • Takashi Nakajima (a techno DJ)
  • The Cro-Magnons (punk!)
  • Toru Takemitsu (traditional kabuki theater music. listen in darkness or candelight)

African music o_o I've really not heard any.
As far as japanese bands go, spitz are the coolest.
and maximum the hormone.
I listen to a few others sporadically, but not hugely. and cats.

How the fuck can you leave out Yoshida Brothers and Tokyosphere? Aside of that, cool list, I'll check some out.

no one listed The Pillows on their list of fav anime / Jpop-rock music? for shame.

but mine would consist of alot of the aforementioned stuff and in terms of not anime music i like alot of weird bands ranging from 90's grunge (nirvana, alice in chains) to some of the newer alternative stuff (modest mouse, white stripes)

Oh lol, I actually started to like Long Shot Party's songs, I like how this group add some element of jazz into their rock/pop genre, I always like jazz so it's quite nice hope they make an album or something, I'll definitely buy their stuff... :(

...maybe this is also a reason why I prefer japanese artists (or from any other countries) over my country's artists, modern thai pop stars are so talentless....and stupid sometimes...LOL

Rock, generally the harder the better. If I were to say I have a favorite genre, it's definitely symphonic metal (Visions of Atlantis, Within Temptation, etc.). Also like lots of jpop (Nami Tamaki, Tommy february6, FOLDER5) and jrock (abingdon boys school, doa, does, etc).

Yeah, I've found some really amazing bands via anime. Spitz, Maximum the Hormone, tsutchie/fat jon's stuff on the Champloo OST, jean-jacques burnel and the stranglers via Gankutsuou.. . yah, quite a few cool machines.

Yah, some of the only hip-hoppish stuff I've ever liked. It's col because it's good music and not rubbish radio gangster stuff.
