I was a little bothered by the ending of Elfen Lied, was just a bit too ambiguous for me. :<

The ending of Heat Guy J was a bit disappointing as well, I was hoping for something more conclusive. Ghost Sweeper Mikami had quite a good ending I think. /gg

Oh yeah, the ending of Death Note kinda blew. /pif

I believe there are plans to add a second season that continues on from where the OVA eps left off.

Good Endings?
Texhnolyze had a fantastic ending. I dare anyone to say it didn't pull some strings. I certainly felt shit for awhile after.

Cowboy Bebop had a decent ending. Just seemed... right. Perfect conclusion to the little snippets of Spike's past that we were treated to throughout the series.

Kumo no Mukou, Yakusoku no Basho had a great ending. It was certainly nice to smile after being raped by Voices of a Distant Star. Hah.

Bad Endings?
Gasaraki comes to mind. The entire show was fairly awful, but the ending was just icing on the cake. There was a massive build up to some answers and then when they were given it was done in the most horrid and bland way I've ever seen in any anime.

Fullmetal Alchemist had a pretty silly ending. Bear in mind that I haven't seen the movie, so I'm not sure about anything beyond the series, but the ending to the series was filled with so many holes and contradictions that it soured the entire experience for me.

Wolf's Rain anyone? I'm sure I don't have to do much convincing here.

Aishiteruze Baby. I love this show, but the ending just made me frustrated and annoyed because it wasn't conclusive in any way. This show could've gone on forever... why did it end!?

Juuni Kokki because it didn't end.

I'll think of more later.

I was going to put Voices of a Distant Star in my list of great endings. :)

Because they couldn't be arsed to do any more? Doesn't this happen to pretty much every single shoujo show out there when there's a long running manga of it?

yeah there was lots of stuff they did not explain, which was anoying... but i thought it added some closer that the anime ending lacked.

I agree, it's terrible
even though there are plans to second season, I bet it's already forgotten

Other terrible ones are
Tokko - it's generally a bad show anyway
GSD

Good ones are
H&C
Nodame Cantabile - even if it didn't officially end yet
Air - guilty pleasure!!!

Gantz's ending still pisses me off to no fucking end to this day. God I hated it for so very many reasons. I'd have rather it ended with some shit like air gear's "We ran out of manga chapters, so we'll end it with, I'll keep trying hard, then fade to a different song being played over it with credits rolling over animation" then that ridiculous moral propaganda...

I still cringe reading the manga thinking about how "violently angry" I'll be if the ending is anything like that shit.

I always thought GTO's was pretty retarded, both the anime and manga's.

To many animes that ended early to even begin listing.

I fucking absolutely hated Paranoia Agent's ending, come the fuck on. All that shit with the dog she let die or whatever the hell it was, mother fucking god...

Fucking evangellion's ending(s) fuck the normal series cop out satirical moral shit, fuck the ova produced to make amends for the shit ending also.

There are a few I enjoyed even if they weren't anything spectacular. Welcome to the nhk's one was fine even if it should have ended after the suicide island stuff probably. Just another depressing episode, showing that everything doesn't always turn out the way you'd think or want.

Bebop had closure and the whole unexpected thing going for it making it a great one. Just was so mother fucking out of place to have him just plain old die like that/from that in the type of series it was.

There's also ones like jigoko shojo's second seasons end. So much weird shit going on that gives almost no closure and reveals very little for series that have a lot of things shrouded in mystery. You learned the brat was the vessel for the devil or whatever, but then enma gets punished and thats it. But not before either a setup for another season or a reference to "It's never going to be over" is made.

These topics, well, it's harder to think back on series more then it is to list examples.

I was quite disappointed with NHK's ending. It was one of those shows that would have been better if they had cut the last five minutes. By all rights he should have died.

Really? I thought that the fact that neither died and everything remained pretty much the same was a big fuck you to everyone who expected death or drastic change, heh.

ok , lets change the topic, what anime do you think was actually good, but ruined by the ending?

i vote samurai champloo , it sucked that all characters survived no matter that theyre stapped trough the kidneys ore stand in the centre of a explosion...

Paranoia Agent, out of all the possibilities of the nature of Shounen Bat, I just thought they picked the most ridiculous one. It would've been better if they didn't answer it at all.

Howl's Moving Castle, just tried wrapped itself up in the last several minutes, me and everyone in the theater were laughing at how bad it was.

thats not really changing the topic, as the topic is about good and bad anime endings, just because an anime had a crappy disapointing ending does not mean it was a bad anime *coughcoughdeathnotecough*

i agree tho, ending to samurai champloo was lacking compared to what they went through to get there.

Samurai Champloo was light and upbeat from the getgo, you saw a happy ending coming from a mile away.

Compare to Cowboy Bebop - which always happens anyways - the Native-Martian (SEE WHAT I DID THERE?) guy tells him he'll die in the first episode. Likewise, we see that ending coming from a mile away.

It should be said though that both are, at the very least, well done
