this is a bit late, but re-watching the ep, can someone give a somewhat rough translation as to what "de arimasu" means? (in the eclipse fan sub) the girl dressed as a maid says it everytime she finishes saying something, though I can't figure out what it was,

at some later point in the episode I had figured it was the name of the spirit she was contracted with, similar to how later on shana becomes contracted by alastor, but re-watching the beginning of the episode seems to suggest otherwise...

also, did anyone else find that the skeleton's scream sounded like a monkey becomming enraged?

Pretty much, DESU DE arimaSU, but not sure myself about the polite part.
I've heard arimasu with other things, but hearing de arimasu in normal conversation sounds weird to me (can anyone confirm this one to me).
I can see how the intention is too sound overly polite though.

so from this I've gathered that "de arimas" is the same thing as desu, which is in turn is NOT "to be", but equivalent to "to be" in english

even at this point though, be has various forms, like
I am, you are, he is
and "be" changes its form based on what it is paired with,

so for the case of "arimasu" it never seems to change at all, and is just stuck on the end of every single line she speaks

Japanese sentences may be predicated with copulas or with verbs. However, desu may not always be a predicate. In some cases, its only function is to make a sentence predicated with a stative verb more polite. In a sense, there are two words desu in Japanese: one is a polite copula that predicates sentences, and the other is a politeness marker added to stative verbs. For example:

Kono biiru wa umai "This beer is good" (this beer TOPIC be-tasty)
Kono biiru wa umai desu "This beer is good" (this beer TOPIC be-tasty POLITE)

Hope that helps. They could've left it out of the translation if they wanted. I imagine they put it in so that we would recognize Wilhelmina's lil mannerism.

For me, and my so-so knowledge, I feel it's a character quirk.
It's just strange for me to hear someone talk like that in the first place.

There is a subtle nuance to it, but I have yet to confirm it and I don't want to assume right away, it's hard to explain for me.

I doubt it's anything profound though.
