i've been on manga-updates for a long time but am new to baka updates and i was wondering why users can't update information like on mu, there are a lot of series that releases have been posted but they do not appear in the series info. i think it would help to let members update.

I love this site, but really, you guys need to add HD files and label them as such. It would help soooo much. Most shows nowadays are getting HD treatment, and us people with HDTVs really want those files, and it saddens me that I can't come here and find them.

I end up searching for a series here, and then going to all the websites of the subbers to see if they have HD files, it's rather troublesome.

^ I do agree.

It has been mentioned numerous times but I think there was a reason that the b-u staff didn't want to do that.

Only one thing is REALLY lacking, a resolution information with the torrent or at least HD/SD label (x264/xvid would be nice too :). Team are doing multiple releases nowadays and all the problems appearing with that... 8-|

Example : Teams are posting HD resolution for the first episode (example BBS on kurenai) and the second one and only one of BBS on the release page is the SD version, BBS website is down... So a simple way to see which version is which and some effort from the guy posting (posting the 2 versions) would be awesome. B)

PS : I'm of course speaking of the release page, I don't have much time to go elsewhere and it might be the 3rd time I'm coming here in 2/3 years  .

RSS Feed: You can't have 25 letter group names preceeding

Postby slove » Mon May 05, 2008 5:13 am

I visit here all the time. I generally love the site.

One thing I strongly dislike is the RSS Feed and the way the listing is constructed, even though that's what I check most. I use Firefox and it's RSS feeder on its "Bookmarks Toolbar Folder." This is the default for many people, I think.

Today for example on the RSS Feed there is an entry:

(Rozen Fansubs & The Subbers Have No Name)...

Well I have NO IDEA what they subbed, because that's ALL I see in the RSS feed.

Then there is

(Hitode-Fandsubs & StrawberryMintSubs) Amat...

Amat? Oh, Amatsuki

I know that this appears to be an issue with Firefox's default width, but it's annoying and don't most people use the default-built-in RSS reader? Can you FIX the width problem and display a narrower RSS? The default is supposed to be 88 for RSS v2.0 and the max is 144. http://feedvalidator.org/docs/rss2.html

ELSE you could do what, cough cough, AnimeSuki is doing on their feed (which fits firefox), put the episode FIRST and the fansub name after.... and insist on abbreviations.

In the above example, it was posted as (Hitode & SMS) significantly shorter and Animesuki is also posting the codec used for that sub which fwiw, is a good thing since some of us don't want the supersized file versions. Since you only allow one feed per episode per group, there are groups posting in many cases the less popular widescreen sub here. I say less popular because if you track the numbers, the XVID or smaller screen versions always seem to have higher numbers of active UL/DL.

In any case the words 'fansub' 'fansubs' or 'fansubbers' should NEVER appear in the description, it's redundant, we all know they are a fansub group....even if it's in its official name.

(And what's with the latest names anyway, 'mysterious fansubbers who fansub anime fansubbing group' ? roflmao (Rabid Otaku Fansubbers Loving Most Anime OVA) )

I love what you guys have done with the Manga Updates site, and would love to see BU incorporate some of these features. Each series page has a description, lets users leave ratings right on the series page, and lets users leave comments, thoughts, and opinions on the show. The series lists also show ratings and genres (as much as they can fit, anyway) and lets users sort by ratings. (To be honest, having the fansub group(s) listed on the first page doesn't mean that much to me because I usually download a show and watch it to judge, and if it's that important to some people, they will usually research it anyway.) The site also allows searching by genre and lets users add new series and edit series descriptions and releases, as I assume BU does, with moderation, of course.

I really like that MU uses the power of the community to create a site where I can find new series that I wouldn't have known about otherwise, see what other people thought about these series, and find links to downloads, all on one site. Not to mention, I'm sure BU has a much larger community, and it would be nice to harness that power to make the site better. I would love it if BU would incorporate some of these features.

I agree. Two of the features i absolutely adore about MU are the genre listed of each title, and esp. the personalized highlights (based on genre) of the new releases. [Yes, i am picky about what I read.] I love all the other features of MU as well!!

Hello

is it possible to add a Info button to each release link to AniDB so you can easily get information about that serie?
the search code for anidb is http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=animelist&adb.search=

so for example Kemono no Souja Erin would be
http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=animelist&adb.search=Kemono+no+Souja+Erin

or would this be a no no since they are links to another site?

Filters

Postby Alecca2u » Mon Jul 13, 2009 1:43 pm

Hi,
I was wondering if there is any way of improving the site's release filters...Could you perhaps add an option of eliminating releases from certain scanlation groups as well? The reason I'm asking is that while I used the filter to eliminate hentai releases, most of them aren't properly marked as being hentai(they don't have a page usually) and the titles themselves are enough to creep/gross you out at times.

I think this might be easy. When you click on an anime's name it goes to page listing all the releases. It would be nice it it could also show some general information about the anime, or at least have links to their respective anidb/ANN/etc pages.

If you're talking about Manga Updates, you can already do that.
If you're talking about Baka Updates, I've NEVER seen hentai listed on it...

Otherway good idea, but put it some info icon that ppl who just want to see other releases don't have to click 10000x before they get to see those.

bring back the whole thing where when you click on the name of the series, it brings up all that back-issues that's been posted. I used that function a lot to fill in holes. I'm not sure if I care enough about an individual release detail to have it take up such a convenient tool. I'd rather stick with group loyalties over finding the most popular release anyday of the week. What MU has is good and I've been wishing BU would use something similar for a long while now. Of course, MU has its own issues...

Also a vote for going back to release order by submission. This alphabetical thing isn't working for me.

After I read some posts here, I realized that the never changing wallpapers have been removed from the latest releases page. My point is that I'm glad that you listen to our suggestions, and take action. :-)

I have a new idea for the poll, since I feel that it's becoming old again!

It could be something like this:

"Which anime do you enjoy the most among the most recent ones?"

1) Darker Than Black - Gemini
2) Nyan Koi!
3) Seiken no Blacksmith
4) Kimi no Todoke
5) A different one
6) None of them

There are several other popular and good animeseries airing nowadays, and therefore I thought: Is it possible to have more alternatives? Maybe include Kampfer and Fairytale.
Naruto Shippuuden is very entertaining, but I don't really see it as one of the most recent series, and that includes Bleach.

What do you think about this poll?

This is a suggestion for the poll.

To show the alternatives first, and then the percentages. In my opinions it's more natural.

Not quite sure if this qualifies as a "site improvement" but some sort of Plug-in/Add-On (whether it be toolbar or other) that allows you to (maybe even require a login screen first) view the most recent updates.

Basically something that allows a user to interact with the site's database without being at the site directly. It could be set to show only the past 5-10 most recent updates and only if they have a linked torrent. It wouldn't have full functionality of the site.

Kind of an example of what I mean would be OneManga Subscriber (http://pages.locationfree.net/omsextension) and MangaShare.com's Toolbar. Something that allows a user to track updates or even specific shows would be good.

I personally use manga-updates and not the anime site baka updates. My suggestion would be to make it so we can filter out specific mangas from the release list. I have the color coding for the genres going but I dislike it when I end up looking at mangas that are listed in genres that I like but I end up disliking the manga itself. I would like to block specific mangas from my release list so I no longer go through them. It would cut down on my release list by a good margin.

I hate having release after release of chapters that I dislike. I want to filter out the mangas that I dislike.
