Problem is it'll probably have no players... logging in to 5000 online players is what killed the first DoW. Sucks too 'cuz DoW (before all the expansions) was such an excellent game.

And, yeah, SC2 is gonna have a guaranteed playerbase just 'cuz of hype/reputation.

starcraft will always be > DoW to me, much better storyline in starcraft.

not that DoW is a bad game or anything...

Yes, because storylines are why you play RTS's. Better tactics, better graphics, more unique races, and better atmosphere have noooothing to do with it.

Don't get me wrong starcraft had it's time. And the sequel should be fairly good based on previews. But it will never match the same level as DoW.

Well to ME, Storyline > gameplay > graphics..

in entire honesty id much rather boot up my SNES emulator and play FF5 with its 8bit graphics and slay bad guys with a 3 pixel longsword then play most of this high end next-gen crap they are trying to sell these days.

then why play RTS's at all?

And to begin with the starcraft plot wasn't even particularly good...not that it should have to be.

Well, for RPGs you aren't wrong... story is king.

What do people look for in an RTS? Gameplay, of course.

RTS's are all about unit variety and gameplay. Keep the story to RPG's.

DoW had an OK story... what let it down was all those in-game clips... the voice acting sounded like something out of a b-movie.

But, yeah, for me it's always been about gameplay for RTS games. That's why Starcraft was so good... it was simple and more focused on strat than micro.

DoW, on the other hand, was the first RTS game I played in a long ass time that actually brought something new to the table. Like, most RTS games are just rehashed versions of that old formula set by games like Dune, C&C and Warcraft, but DoW had a new and interesting system. And don't get me wrong, heaps of RTS games came out with different systems, but I can't name any that actually worked well like DoW did.

It's just too bad that DoW never had the playerbase that it should have had.

Oh, and the mass expansions didn't help any.
