Clive is one of the 108 Stars. You don't need him to finish the game, but his recruitment gives you a nice sidequest in Suikoden 2. In Suikoden 1, he comes rather late into play... unfortunatelly, because he's a great shooter, one of the best long rangers in the game... even without rune-skills. Since I haven't played Suikoden 3 and 4 yet (currently occupied with an older game - Shining Soul II as GBA-rom), but hope he makes a good appearance.
